Peggy’s Cocktail Rye

Peggy loved this Cocktail Rye Pupu recipe because they were easy to make, were very tasty and could be frozen and ready for that surprise visitor just around cocktail hour.

  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 1 pound sausage Jimmy Dean
  • 1 pound Velvetta cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 loaf of Rye Cocktail Bread


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.In two separate skillets, brown the hamburger and sausage.
  • Pour off all the grease from the hamburger and sausage, combine in one skillet and add the Velvetta cheese and the garlic powder and Italian seasonings.Mix all the ingredients together and put about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the mixture on each slice of the cocktail rye bread.
  • Place the slices on a cookie sheet and place in the oven at 350 degrees F.Bake until the mixture is browned and heated through. Serve at once or allow to cool, cover with plastic wrap and freeze.
